The Manchester Bidwell Corporation’s vision is to respond to industry demands. Bidwell offers school programs providing career paths and opportunities in the high-tech, culinary and medical fields. Bidwell believes that education offered in an intelligent, planned and financially sound manner will bear real results for students and the entire community.
“I remember the day I arrived in 1987, my freshman year of high school. I found an environment that wasn’t institutional, like school, but it offered a different kind of structured environment,” says Sharif Bey about his experience at the school.
He now has his Master of Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina, is enrolled in a doctoral program at Penn State and now gives back by mentoring others.
“There is something about passing the torch that has become so important. In teaching, I reflect on the saying by John Piaget, ‘The more you see, the more you want to see.’”
“My values have changed drastically since graduating from Bidwell,” says Ashley Woodson, a Bidwell success story.
“I always had good morals and values, but Bidwell made me live them out and show respect for others and especially for myself. In the past, I could hold a job for a year or more, but I would always leave because of one reason or another. Bidwell taught me to “stick and stay” and get out of my own way. I tell everyone who will listen about my life changing experience at Bidwell. My advice is: Be true to yourself and realize that you can achieve anything if you STAY COMMITTED.”
Future Focus believes in these success stories. After touring Bidwell’s National Center for Arts & Technology facility in 2008, the Future Focus Foundation decided to make NCAT the beneficiary of Future Focus’ annual fundraising event The Ultimate Jet Set Experience. Funds raised have been used to do a feasibility study to determine if a replication of the NCAT model in Halifax would be impactful.
